Help!!! AKA Mini Giveaway

I seem to have lost my knitting mojo a little recently. Now, then I had a thought. Yesterday, the thing on my side bar showed that 51 people visited my little abode here in blogland. So I had an idea.

If you visit here, could you leave me a teency weency little comment telling me any idea you have to try and get my mojo back? It could be a joke, a good pattern, a great picture, anything really. I mean, you're here anyway, aren't you?

I'll be so grateful that I'll reward one of the commentors with a little gift from my stash of many beautiful things.

I'll be waiting up until Sunday at midnight.

Thank you, my blogland friends.

This! But not in laceweight. Choose a lovely yarn, in your favourite colours that will be luxurious and a special treat for you.
If that doesn't appeal how about the lace leaf scarf pattern here. (scroll down)

make it a no pressure knit just for you. :)

What gets my knitting juices flowing is shopping. Actually go to you LYS and pet every skein you see. Let the colors and textures ooze all over you. If your LYS is friendly, ask them if you can sit on a couch and they cover (bury) you in yarn goodness. Get in touch with the softness caressing your skin. Find the one in a colorway that really gets your mouth watering and plan for a quick knit project to create with it. There's nothing like a special knit that's all about you.

I agree with what Wendy said! Buying yarn *never* hurts ;-) I also find that listening to podcasts like Lime & Violet help me get into that rabid, ravenous need to knit & finish items.

It would be totally predictable of me to say get your drink on, so I won't. ;)

Do you own any stitch dictionaries? Like the Vogue or Barbara Walker books? I find that looking through them inspires me hugely when I'm feeling stuck in a rut.

Either that or organize your stash. That can help too. I've heard. I haven't tried it. I'm not much into organizing. :)

{{{{hugs}}}} Go put on your green swing sweater and feel better.

A totally knitted wedding - if this doesn't inspire you, at least it'll make you laugh! Losing your knitting mojo sucks... hope you get it back soon!

It always helps me to start something that I can finish pretty fast, especially when I'm working on long term projects (like your gorgeous sweater!). Start a hat or scarf that you can finish in a weekend so that you feel like you're accomplishing something. :) The Yarn Harlot posted a really quick hat on her blog a couple days ago. That might do the trick.

I'm also definitely for going to your LYS and petting the yarn. It always helps.

There are so many reasons why "we should" keep up knitting but I find that there is a really good one to get me "back in the groove" that has been proven true. Now repeat after me, "I want to knit! I want to knit! I want to knit!" and click your heels 3 times.... and poof your back to knitting... You'll grab a delicious ball from your stash, search your patterns and sit down in front of a great Lifetime or WE channel and watch a "chick" flick and knit away. After all it worked for Dorothy, right? Happy Knitting....

If I'm in a bit of a knitting rut, I go crochet something, or sew something, or make a card. Something else crafty to take you away from knitting for a little while. Then, go buy a fab knitting mag - something inspirational like vogue. I always want to knit something (even if not from the mag)

Oh, and if I win, you can reward me after the reveal :P

I have a few things that I like to do to snap me out of a knitting funk. Many of them have already been mentioned but I'll give my take on them.

1. knit something small and quick with chunky yarn and big needles (capelets are great for this) - may I recommend the Anthro Inspired capelet from Peony Knits or the Charlotte capelet from a back Rowan mag - 38 maybe?

2. take a look through your stash - you don't actually need to organize it, just look at what you have and think about possibilities

3. look at some knitting books/back issues of magazines (Interweave Knits and Rowan are especially good for this) to get inspired

4. sew up/finish any unfinished projects

5. cast on for something new that's very different from anything else you're working on - preferably something knitted top-down, in the round, without seams. Wicked by the Zephyr Style girls is just right for this.

I always like going to the bookstore/yarnstore and browsing books/yarns to find something to be interested in.

Go fondle all the yarn that you can at your LYS!!

Browsing everyone's projects on Ravelry always inspires me.

I like going to the library to look at knitting books and, lately, browsing on Ravelry. But sometimes I find it even more inspiring to look through other books or at other types of art for interesting colours and textures.

the answer is in your house already! find that 200 ripple stiches book, find a variety of yarns and get swatching. after 3 or 4 goes you'll find something you can't bear to put down (promise).

Neat picture!
And love how you are getting the masses out with your contest! :oD

Even though you know you don't need to drag me out to comment at all! ;op

I get out of my knitting mojo slump by literally waiting it out. If I force it, then it just won't be good. I haven't gone long...maybe like 2 weeks of absolutely not wanting to pick up a needle or yarn.

But once I do it typically is on a weekend with lots of lounge time and sunshine going on! :oD

Mmmh I am gonna have to check out this clustrmap thingy....

If you've lost your mojo, don't fight it! Enjoy other aspects of your life that you couldn't do if you were knitting. The more you worry about getting the "bug" back, the more it will evade you. When the time is right, when you get the inspiration, when just the right pattern/yarn strike - it'll come back - with a vengence. Fear not - embrace the void.

When that happens I do a different craft. Jewellery, quilting, stitchmarkers, sewing, embroidery etc. I'm really itching to have a go at wet felting after seeing it done at the RDS in Dublin. I just need to source a little feltable roving :)

Is there anything you really want to try?

I also have so many WiPs of different colours, yarns and 'feels' that I chop and change between them and needle size so I'm rarely bored. :)

Take a few days off it it helps but don't sweat it either :D

If I have a nearly finished UFO that has been lingering, I pick it up and finish it. It feels as if I accomplished something really fast. Another thing I do is look through some of my very favorite books by Elizabeth Zimmermann and read what she has to say. I always find her to be inspiring.

Ravelry! Or knit something tiny, that you can finish in under an hour - I've been doing Christmas ornaments lately, but at other times of the year I make little flowers or stars to stick on barettes for my niece, or miniature blankets and scarfs for her dolls using fancy stitch patterns. Finishing something, even if it's just a little thing, usually gets me my mojo back.
And thank you for the suggestion on what to do with my Noro - your Argosy scarf is lovely! I might just make one like it :)
